We have it in our Bylaws to have different membership status', ie:
A. Individual Membership: The full annual dues rate per person; or
B. Family Membership: The full annual dues rate for the first member and
one-half (1/2) the full annual dues rate thereafter for each additional member
residing at the same address.
C. Student Dues. 18 years of age or under. One-half of regular Dues.
D. Life Membership: Upon the payment of a one-time amount equal to ten times
the then current individual Member full annual dues rate, an individual shall
be designated a Life Member of the Club. A Life Member shall not be required
to pay any additional annual dues or assessments and shall have all Individual
membership rights and privileges for as long as the Club shall exist.
Of our 98 members, we have five Life Memberships and six Family Memberships.
We're not very effective in attracting students since most of them are way
beyond our average member in skills.
This hasn't changed in six years.
When a visitor asks me what dues are, I tell them $30 a year due January 1st.
I do not think that different levels are necessary. Nor do I believe that
they increase (or decrease) membership.
If you want more members, go out and get them. If you want to keep your
members, provide more value for what they pay. Ours get a "show" every month
at the
meetings, a monthly CD with freeware, shareware, and demos, and limited tech
support from our club resource group.
