The good news is this; There are about as many Macintosh programmers on
percent to user base as there is to Window programmers so while the user
base is smaller so are the amount of programmers. The bad news, as you have
seen, is there isn't a whole lot of jobs. If you get good though, and
really look around you would be surprised who needs a Macintosh programmer.
Also, it depends a lot on where you live. For instance, if you are in
California you will find more jobs, but also more people competing for them.
Also, it is important to know more then one technology and know lots of
theory. I'm still in school but I know REALbasic, VB, C/C++, perl and
Obj-C/Cocoa but I realize these skills will do me about no good in 10 years
so I try and pick up new technology all the time. I can find programming
jobs easier by knowing as many different things but more importantly knowing
theory because the theory applies to all these technologies.
So, I guess my advice is make sure you know lots of computer science theory,
learn a handful of technologies and make yourself dynamic.
If your looking for quick cash, JAVA and Visual Basic are always hot items.
