I understand how NDAs work. And I assumed that people would NOT tell

Honestly, the fact people instantly jumped out and said "hey, don't

I didn't see anyone say "don't tell this guy any secrets". I did
however see people saying "don't expect people to answer this, they're
not allowed to tell you, Apple considers it secret".
Considering Tiger isn't even going to be out until some way into next
year, how long can you wait until targetting it? I'd personally say
it's obvious that Java isn't getting the attention it desires (the
bridge even moved to "deprecated/legacy" in the ADC Documentation,
didn't it? Whatever happened to bridget?), and if you want to get
access to cutting edge technologies (and not-so-cutting-edge)
technologies here and now, just go with Obj-C.
The Java Bridge certainly seems to have been created because Apple (or
more likely NeXT) suddenly got this idea that WebObjects had to be
Java to make it more marketable to the enterprise crowd. They finally
rewrote all of WebObjects in Java natively, so the bridge thus became
of use only to those still on WO4.5. When people ask about Cocoa-Java
for desktop applications, the response is generally "why not just use
obj-c?", and it certainly does seem that the overwhelming majority of
people actually do.
Anyway, my considered opinion based on publicly available information
is that the Java bridge isn't worth pursuing.
