I haven't really been following this thread but....

Wouldn't it make sense to do the color management in the postscript so
any device could be color managed?

I'm saying, when the postscrip is written, have all color conversions
take place be it images or vector stuff.

Why isn't this the universal standard?

We would, of course, want the profile information tied to the OPI
comments because nobody who is interested in production prints fat
postscript anymore.

Or can we rely on embedded profiles for this information?

Side note: I am a CMYK convert.

With nearly 30 years in printing and prepress I have now seen the light.

There is no way without color management to achive the ultimate dream we
have all sought [matching proof to press.]

One thing that stuns me is when I read the cmyk densities on our Iris
CT's [the files that will make the proofs] and I see 1% black where I
swear it shouldn't be but...

The proof is dead nuts.

I'm learning to live with it.
