RIP software for a 1270?

I followed a recent thread here about the Iproof/Birmy, etc. A good
friend is a graphic designer and uses an Epson 1270 for outputting rough
proofs through Quark 4. She's frustrated by issues with IProof; Quark
told her that Iproof was the only available software RIP that's
compatible with Quark. She's getting these very rough halftone looks on
some of her photographic images using Iproof. Coarse; almost bitmappy.
Others have told her to avoid PressReady because it's a dead horse with
no support.

Has anyone found a good working setup to output Postscript out of Quark
4, using an Espon 1270? Surely, she's not the only person on the planet
wanting to output simple Quark proofs on an Epson...

Thanks,
Mark Tucker
