Alison,
As a rule of thumb Relative Colorimetric is the most accurate way to map
color information when doing RGB to CMYK conversions (3 to 4). That is if
your images do not have too many out of gamut colors. If you have images
with out of gamut colors use the Perceptual RI.
Using Absolute Colorimetric RI. This is usually used for doing simulations
of a printing process say with an ink jet printer or for converting from
CMYK to CMYK. And if I understand your post, I don9t know why you would
want to use it for what you are doing.
As for doing the RGB to CMYK conversion, why not use the Mode Change option
Convert to Profile. In this dialog box you have your choice of rendering
intents. So why don9t you set up and action and then batch process your
images.
