Untagged RGB images are not matched to the display for performance
reasons. Instead, for display only, untagged RGB images are assumed to
be in the display space already. When printing and saving as PDF,
Generic RGB is assigned.
Please upgrade to 10.3.4 so you can use Preview as you'd expect.

Andrew,
Preview uses Quartz, and therefore:
1) Benefits from embedded profiles.
Confirmed.
2) Uses the Generic profiles for untagged data.
Not for RGB it isn't. Even on 10.3.4 it's still assuming monitor RGB.
The numeric values in my test files are the same numbers that Digital
Color Meter reports. Even when I change the display profile to
something totally whacked the test images are unchanged in Preview,
even after logging out and back in again.
We don't do software updates to address UI changes. Stay tuned for
the next release.
That's not good, especially in concert with using customers as a beta
testing grounds for UI, it means a guaranteed problem that will never
get fixed for that product's life. Hopefully future interface ideas
can be better vetted out prior to release since apparently the UI will
stick with that product forever.
