Hi Steve, Roger, Martin, Klaus,

I second the idea of a naming convention for generic profiles.

There are several aspects that should be reflected in the name and they should not be mixed (ECI and HDM are two different animals): - Who created the profile (organization, company, individual), e.g. ECI - Which profiling software was used, e.g. X-Rite - Dataset on which the profile is based, e.g. fogra39 - Standard that is being met, e.g. ISO 12647-2 - Type of stock, e.g. coated
The name will have to be abbreviated somehow; ECI_HDM_FOGRA39_ISO_12647-2_coated is definitely too long and unwieldy – any suggestions?
I don´t believe we need a country or continent in the name, ISO is an international standard, the datasets are clearly defined by their names and it doesn´t really matter in which country the profile was created. Euroscale never was a standard anyway.
We have the opportunity to create a universal naming convention here and end the chaos in profile names taht rules today. I, for my part, promise to adhere to a naming convention agreed to by this list. And, Klaus, I don´t think it is too late – the ECI profiles are not published yet, and even an existing profile can be renamed easily ;-)
The idea of an additional tag for the dataset is great, but that´ll take time. Grouping profiles with a folder structure in applications like Photoshop could be easier and faster (hey, Adobe – CS3 ???)
Best regards ans Happy New Year,
Karl Koch
