I would also add that the calculated total ink may not be the same as the 'requested' total ink, and that's OK. But there are certainly times when the requested total ink would be valuable information:
- an evaluation of the profile to determine if it exceeds it's total ink - due to a software bug or editing of the profile.
- the limiting of edits to a CMYK document based on the profile's total ink. One of the dangers of CMYK editing is exceeding the desired total ink. With total ink recorded in the profile, the editing tool could limit file edits accordingly (with user override, I would think)
