Derrick, I am very confident in my proofer's profile. It's not the
profile that causes the blue to lean to magenta, it's just the nature of
the beast.
as for the monitor profile, I never edit the profile . . . I just make
adjustments on top of the profile in CN; adjustments that are stored
within the CN app and do not affect the profile's curves.

An alternative to this approach would be to edit the A2B table of your
printer profile, changing the way images are displayed through that
profile without effecting the the inverse table (Lab->CMYK). But if it's
the Nature of the beast for the Approval to have blues leaning toward
magenta, why isn't the profile representing that? I don't doubt you,
because I've seen the same thing here with the Approval and saturated
blues looking, more magenta on the proof than on screen. But I shy away
from editing either the monitor profile or using Color Navigator's
manual adjustments, which in fact are altering the state of the monitor
on top of your moniyor profile. Could be problematic if for example, you
need to softproof a different device/workflow wherein the blues are
completely accurate on screen (or would have been if you hadn't used the
CN manual adjustments).
Derrick's troubleshooting approach is pretty solid though...measuring
Lab sample to compare to what you intended them to be.
