Good point. The reference file *should* be easily available on their website, at least.
For your own purposes and software you should be able to include XRIte reference file
(just sent directly to your email address) or make you own.

If I had a ColorChecker SG, I could perhaps make my own (I actually have
a ColorChecker DC, which did come with a reference file). I' pretty
sure I don't have copyright permission to post X-Rite's (presumably batch averaged
and used as the target for quality assurance) measurements to a website.

you are absolutely right, Graeme: every ColorChecker should come along with a reference file or at least an URL that links to the reference file -- or XRite should release "official" reference files and documentation to the public domain.

I have at least two different spectral reference files for the ColorChecker SG.

One was part of my ProfileMaker installation:

/Applications/ProfileMaker Pro 5.0.8/Reference Files/Scanner/Digital ColorChecker SG.txt:

CREATED	"4/13/2005" # Time: 14:39
INSTRUMENTATION	"Spectrolino"

and the second was supplied by a customer:

CREATED	"3/24/2004" # Time: 20:14
INSTRUMENTATION	"eye-one"

I don't know the origin of the customer's file, but the identical filenames and formating suggest that also the second file was part of some GMB/Xrite installation. They are fairly similar (DE00 max 2.32, avg. 0.67, 90% <= 1.08).

The patch with DE00 2.39 is E9 (dark green). Other than that only some of the gray and black calibration patches on the margins exceed DE00 = 1.08.

I cross-checked the customer's Color Checker SG by means of spot samples with a Spectrolino and two eye-ones and found that the 2005 Spectrolino reference file goes better with my measurements. The 2005 reference file matched the target within the bounds of inter-instrument-agreement.

Whenever I have to use a new ColorChecker SG, I make some spot sample measurements. Until now I found only one (out of approx. 8-10) that differed significantly from the 2005 reference file.
