Iliah,
When I profile a scanner and then graph it ColorThink Pro, ColorThink Pro draws a colour space from the analysis of the profile that one could call a gamut. Now, admittedly, a profile is a characterization, but for all practical purposes in the hands of photographers using these things for colour management, can we not say that the characterization of the device describes a gamut of some shape, even though in pure technical reality at the level of the scanner itself it may not be?

I think we have a little language problem here. To quote, "there is no such thing as a camera, or scanner, gamut"
