Because the results you get from driving the 9900 directly for RGB workflows are usually faster, easier to instigate and yield superior results.
As far as I'm aware you can't even build 10 colour profiles for the GMG RIP without unlocking some very, very expensive software -- our license version enables us to edit MX4s but not build 10 colour profiles from scratch.
If a client walks in off the street with a 24" roll of the latest OkeyCokey2000 art paper we can run colour charts, measure them, crank out a profile and run test proofs that look very good in under an hour.
I've never seen anybody (including GMG staffers) be able to profile an unknown paper on the GMG RIP that quickly.
