Andreas
My expectation is that FOGRA52 should work in a similar way to 39 or 47 or 45
etc in that we should be able to create profiles from the data set that result
in images that look so similar to the ECI version that the clients don’t notice
any difference.
We cannot do that.
i1Profiler is incapable of this. But it worked perfectly for every other
standard before 51 & 52.
Certainly we can invest in other software if it is necessary, but what software
do we need and what are the settings that were used to create the ECI profile?
I don’t like the ECI profile, but I will have to work with it if our clients
choose to use it.
Once Adobe release their version it will replace the ECI profile as the
standard we have to match because of ubiquity — it doesn’t matter if it is a
better or worse profile, it will be the one that most people have access too.
We need to be able to create custom profiles that fulfil different technical
demands but result in images that have the same appearance.
This isn’t about arguing who has the *best* separations.
We can provide alternatives that either we build and claim are superior or that
we’ve licensed from Juergen & GMG and they claim are superior.
This is about creating separations that both work — and still resemble — the
images that our clients have churned out of Photoshop.
