As far as I can recall (may be remembering wrong), about all legacy programs
that well-supported SD2 files, supported right and left filename identifiers.
I don't think it mattered to many of the programs, whether there is a '.L',
'.R'. Many programs would recognize a split stereo pair automatically as long as
there were two otherwise identical filenames with 'l' 'r' OR 'L' 'R'
right-appended.
For instance, the Classic Adaptec/Roxio Jam CD Mastering program, if you add a
file to the burn list, and the filename ends with 'r' or 'l', Jam automatically
looks for a matching 'other letter' file, and if such is found knows that it is
a 'split stereo' pair.
I'd guess the OSX version of Jam will do the same, but haven't checked.
