Hi,
I just do the following...
- set up a mono audio file generator in AU lab
- play an audio file through it (in this I have one peaking at -3db
according to the meters)
- now insert a mono->stereo apple matrix verb onto the track
- bypass the matrix verb
- my input signal is now peaking at 0db!
My guess is that this is to do with pan law, ie that AULab is
attentuating the mono signal when panned dead center in order that it
appears to have the same perceived volume when panned hard left or
hard right. Inserting a mono->stero effect is somehow bypassing this
procedure (as far as the host is concerned it's no longer a mono
track) therefore the attenuation no longer occurs and the track
appears to jump in volume!
I'm not seeing this behaviour here, can you describe your exact
settings in AU Lab?
