But, still wondering.... has anybody actually got the double
clicking of .eomodeld files to work on Xcode?
Yep. The only time that I've had a problem is when the eomodel was
added to an Xcode project as a group (beige folder icon) rather than
as a folder reference (blue folder icon). After I open an eomodel by
double-clicking its blue folder icon in Xcode, the icon changes to an
eomodel icon.
When I inspect an eomodel in an Xcode project, its file type is
"folder". The Path is the eomodel directory name (e.g.,
Foo.eomodeld), the Full Path is the actual full path to the eomodeld
directory, and the Path Type is "Relative to Enclosing Group". I
don't recall having to set any of this stuff; it was correct after I
added the eomodel to the project.
To prevent Xcode's eomodel editor from opening eomodels, I inspected
an eomodeld in Finder, set its "Open with" to EOModeler, clicked
"Change All...".

I opened my Xcode Preferences, clicked on File Types and then
set the Preferred Editor for wrapper.eomodeld to use External
Editor, e.g. EOModeler.
I haven't changed my preferred editor preference; it's still
"Default (EOModel File)".
