I see this too on Leopard. No Safari (I use Camino), no HP printers,

What does `defaults read com.apple.x11' say about wm_click_through or
wm_ffm?
On mine they are each '1', and I see the hourly loss of focus. In the
system.log I see two events that coincide with the loss of focus
TimeMachine and 'com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.dyld): Throttling
respawn: Will start in 53 seconds'. The number of seconds is not always
the same.
I suspected that what was happening was that the mouse was temporarily
being claimed by a window beneath the one I was using.
This is probably just a coincidentally similar situation:
Has anyone also noticed that when there is another non-X11 window (e.g.
Safari) between two X11 windows and when the two plist variables are
set, that moving the mouse away from the topmost (focused) X11 window
onto the non-X11 window (e.g. Safari) causes the X11 window beneath the
non-X11 window to get focus? You can see this if you have xterms as the
X11 windows with them set to change the cursor form when the window
gets focus.
