Good catch. I am having the same problem here. I normally use
ctrl-alt-arrow keys to move between spaces. If I open a new xterm,
move to a different space using ctrl-alt-right, say, and then move
back to the original space using F8, then typing d in the xterm ends
it (since it behaves like ctrl-d). If I use F8 for all space changes,
this does not happen. The funny thing is that it also used to happen
when I do all my space switching using ctrl-alt-right, but now I
cannot reproduce that. As makes sense, since X11 should now get the
key-up event on the control key (?).

It's not really very new to me, though it's sort of new-ish.
No, I can't say for sure exactly when the problem surfaced.
