I wonder whether this is the same thing as the "momentary loss of focus"
issue that I and many other people have been seeing for a long time.
I thought of that after making my initial suggestion. But, I had been using full screen X11 and not seeing it; I'm seeing it now that I have switched nto not using full screen. (Then again, I'm also using it a bit more now.)
The only thing I've been able to reliably correlate this with is iCal;
it will happen exactly one minute before an iCal alert is due to pop up.
But I've also sometimes seen it at times when I didn't think iCal was
doing anything.
I'm not using iCal (and if it's being used behind my back, it's not displaying any alerts) but still seeing it.
