The devtools uninstaller script both gained features and became more complicated with the introduction of side-by-side installation in Xcode 3.0 (and Xcode 2.5), so the script on the dmg wasn't really feasible anymore. The scripts do continue on inside the <Xcode folder>/ Library/ location and continue to be supported.

That said, you should be able to upgrade your Xcode Tools install without needing to blow away the older toolset. The uninstaller scripts are provided in case you want to remove Xcode Tools from a system, or you run into problems with an Xcode Tools install and need to do a clean re-install.

I upgraded 3.0 -> 3.1.1 a couple of days ago, and was surprised to find that Tools/uninstall-devtools.pl was MIA. Looks to me like they really, really mean it.

M'h. I still find /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools, which seems to be a Perl script for a whole family of uninstallers.

Of course, an upgradeable product might still benefit from tools for the separate task of uninstalling. So my really-really-mean-it question still stands.
