Did you install the command-line tools? If not, you may have to invoke it via the path inside the Xcode bundle as given in an earlier message. Whether git is installed or not, shouldn't I be able to completely turn off SCM in my project?
Snapshots *are* SCM :) And as I said, I’ll bet they use Git internally.
It sounds like you used Git once and set up some persistent state that now doesn’t work. You could try cleaning it out by deleting ~/.git*
