Path to reference (repost)

LIsters,
Sorry but I posted this last night. Due to the lateness of the hour I am not sure I posted it correctly and,as this is really hanging me up right now, I will try again...

Why doesn't "Paste Reference" work under OS X? That was one of my favorite tricks under 9. Now I have to type in a long path to the file. Used to be I could copy the file then, under Script editor, I could choose paste reference. But no matter what I do, now, it remains grayed out. Is this operator ignorance? If so, I happily await further instructions. Otherwise, durn.

I dragged the target file into the terminal and got something like the following: I say something like because of course it had forward slashes and I replaced them with colons.
Users:davegroover:Desktop:Team Pages:1.0:zNon uploaded extras-LHS:LHS2

This line:
open "Users:davegroover:Desktop:Team Pages:1.0:zNon uploaded extras-LHS:LHS2"

Opens a new fie and errors that it "Could not complete your request because can't coerce data to requested type". LHS2 is not a new file so it is either not reading the path correctly of I have used the wrong command/syntax with Freeway.

This is going to open a Freeway file on my disk when a folder action is triggered. All I want it to do, eventually, is to (from the text file - I have Nisus, Word, old ClarisWorks and WordPerfect. I prefer Nisus or Word)
1) copy the first line of the dropped file as title
2) skip three returns and copy the rest as text
3) open the specific target Freeway file (LHS2)
4) Here it gets a little hazy. Either I could create this for each page that will need updating on a regular basis and just have a folder of drop folders, or, in the short run, just have the whole text copied as onevar and set to the systems clipboard. Either way, Freeway will have to be scripted and that means that I will have further questions about scripting Freeway. If there are any who are familiar with Freeway I would love to ask other questions.

Again I am asking a few things in case someone is already familiar with scripting Freeway. But the basic question for this email that I really would like to know is, why can I not paste the reference to a file? And, how do I do this?

Dave
