What do toolbars and sidebars have to do with anything?
Box unchecked - open a folder in a Finder window, see the contents of
that folder in the same window.
Box checked - open a folder in a Finder window, that window stays
around showing the same contents as before, and a new window appears
showing the contents of the folder you just opened.
This seems to be a pretty obvious interpretation of the text next to
the checkbox. I'm quite confused by the references to columns and
sidebars and toolbars.
