Current flexo CIELab targets (per FIRST 3.0) are dependent on substrate
and ink type, and are not identical to Gracol or SWOP specifications.
However, they are not terribly far off, and some Flexo printers have
worked with their ink suppliers to achieve a lower delta toward CIELab
targets specified by Gracol and SWOP.
I am not concerned with flexo printing very much, but I think the
primary source for basic data should be the relevant ISO standards:
- ISO 2846-5: Colour and transparency of printing ink sets for
four-colour flexographic printing
<http://www.iso.org/iso/iso_catalogue/catalogue_tc/catalogue_detail.htm?csnumber=31444>
- ISO 12647-6: Process control for the production of half-tone colour
separations, proofs and production prints -- Flexographic printing,
<http://www.iso.org/iso/iso_catalogue/catalogue_tc/catalogue_detail.htm?csnumber=32046>
I don't know these standards and can't compare them with ISO 2846-1 /
ISO 12647-2, GRACoL or SWOP.
From my experience, most flexo printers in Europe (incl. UK) ask for
sheet fed separations and proofs (FOGRA39/ISO Coated v2) and, as a
general rule, they compass a reasonable match.
