I still havent figured out the shape tearing, and Ive been trying to add clears on texture depth generation and pre drawing but the tearing is still persisting.

I've been keeping track of what I see from openGL profiler and saw that as it is created its simply a black box but after clearing it it becomes white, so I try to glClearColor including the alpha channel so it would appear clear in the resources but the tearing still persists.

That unbinds the depth buffer from the FBO so that it doesn’t try to draw to a texture that’s been deleted. If I were being really safe, I probably would have saved the binding before changing it and set it back to the same thing. But I happen to know that in this case nothing was bound.

That looks a lot like drawing with a depth buffer that hasn’t been cleared. If you turn off the depth buffer be sure to also disable depth testing.

Thanks a lot! I see that I could get away without using a framebuffer for this one and it appears to work correctly with regards to the depth problem but now the image is tearing up. Here is a screenshot of what happens.

I took some time over the weekend to update the BoxTest example to show you how to add a depth buffer to the FBO that the host app gives to you. Here it is:

There’s a #define that you can turn on and off to see the difference. Note that this version draws a box (as its name suggests), and that normally backface culling is on. For a cube, backface is sufficient to draw the cube correctly. So in this example, I’ve turned it off so that you can see that without the depth buffer it does not draw correctly.

To see it in action, build the plug-in, put it in the appropriate place and run Motion. Create a new project, add a camera to the project, then add the generator. You should then be able to orbit the camera around the cube and see that it draws correctly. Note that in its default position, the cube will clip as you orbit around so you probably should move it back or move the camera farther away from it.

Let me know if this example makes sense.
