Well - Plugin it is... yikes.. as the pure jdbc sql works just fine.
After reading Art's Apple technote I think it is the Java Bridge that
is not quite
working with DB2.
This should be interesting.

I'm not certain that straight JDBC would help you. IIRC, you don't
+require+ a plugin either -- though that would certainly solve the
problem. Have you looked at changing the data type and/or not using
UPPER?
