BTW, this may have nothing to do with anything, but had two issues
after installing 10.5.5:
1) Ssh stopped working for me. I checked, and I was picking up /opt/
local/bin/ssh, built some time ago via "port install openssh"; when I
tried /usr/bin/ssh it worked just fine. I didn't want to spend any
time debugging what was wrong, so I just rebuilt everything that I had
installed via "port". I also uninstalled openssh", since I don't
remember why I why I had it in the first place. I haven't seen any
other issues.
2) My MacBookPro got the screen-of-death this morning, a panic in the
kernel in the locking code. The command running at the time was
"configd", but I don't know if it was the culprit, or an innocent
victim. I was using a couple of local xterms (with ssh to another
machine) at the time of the crash, and one x window from a remote
app. So far it hasn't happened again.

What happened? A software update! When I was on 10.5.4, everything I
need was working fine. Updated iTunes, a Security update Monday,
still no serious problems. Tuesday, I upgraded to 10.5.5, and X11
broke, seemingly never to be repaired.
I have since repaired permissions, upgraded to Xquartz-2.3.1, & done
everything suggested, to no avail. I will (out of necessity) revert
back to 10.4.11 if this can't be fixed. I liked some Leopard
features, such as Spaces and launchd, but I can live without them if
necessary.

I think the bigger question is: What happened to your system?
It concerns me that if one system file has been somehow deleted,
others may have been as well. I'm not sure how much I would trust
your particular installation of Leopard. If you have the option of
simply backing up your user files and doing a clean install of your
system, it might pay dividends in returning you to more baseline
behavior.

Here it is. Looks like some system file isn't present. If not,
where can I find one?
