Then, after installing X11 only, and it runs, I can be reasonably sure (I think) that one or both of the installs were damaged. If it still does not run, then there is something else to go look for.
I'd rather help you fix your system than hand you a shovel to dig yourself deeper.

Can you please save me from trolling through and untangling every thread in the gimp mailing list? Please post exactly what is going wrong on your system, and we'll figure it out.
