So it seems with OS X 10.8 and XQuartz 2.7.2, if something needs to be
pasted from X11 to OS X, pressing Command-c is needed. As I usually use
Command-c for this anyway, I would not have realized this difference without
the tests I did earlier on 10.6.8 with system X11.app.
That's what I have been doing since some unknown time ago. Ctrl-C from
X apps used to just work, then stopped working at some point...
On X11 Ctrl-c is only working in some GUI applications, but not
in all, because e.g. in xterm (and probably others) Ctrl-c is
used to abort a running process. So this is why historically in
the X11 world copy and paste is done with selecting and then
pasting with the middle mouse button, but some newer GUI
applications started to adapt the Ctrl-c, Ctrl-x and Ctrl-v
behavior out of the Windows world. In X11.app you should use
Command-c to copy to the OS X pasteboard. Also see the posting
from Jeremy and activate the "Update Pasteboard immediately when
text is selected" in the XQuartz preferences.
bye
Fabian
