I rest my case. If Xcode requires a high-end dual-processor machine
to do something that CodeWarrior could do on a mid-range uni-processor
machine, it's too damn slow.
I have also run in on slower systems (single core but still usually in
the Pro class of things) and never seen things as bad as you listed...
if you have specifics please report them to Apple.
Text edition can be slow or super slow or too damn slow if you're
dealing with really big files (such as OpenGL textures described in a
.h file, i.e 1-4 MB of texts).
XCode text engine doesn't seem to be designed to deal with this kind of
files. It's not a new problem, it's been there since Mac OS X 10.0 and
PB.
When dealing with this kind of files, it's really a good idea to edit
those files in a separate editor such as BBEdit Light as its
performances are 100 times better than the XCode editor.
For more common files, text edition since XCode 1.5 is fine. Prior to
this version, it could be seen as slow.
