That doesn't seem to make sense. Aren't .xibs an Xcode 3 feature, and doesn't Xcode 3 require Leopard? If so, the stationery in Xcode 3 could easily use .xib.

It's true. The template projects in Xcode 3.0 could have easily used XIB's. However, right now creating a new project with Xcode 3.0 that is buildable with Xcode 2.4+ only requires changing the 'Project Format' pop up button in the project inspector. If the template files were all XIB's, developers would also have to open re-save, remove and add a bunch of XIB and NIB files to their project to make the project build with Xcode 2.4+. XIB files are definitely the way forward, but it's always nice to give users a bit of breathing room when introducing a file format that isn't backwards compatible (design time only) with the previous version of your tool.
