I also would like to know if 4 MB are enough if you have a
virtalization app, be VirtualBox or VMWare or Parallels running
along with Xcode (only thing I know for sure: 2 MB are not).
FWIW..
I have a Core Duo 17" MBP with 2GB and I regularly use XP in Parallels
running Visual Studio alongside XCode or Photoshop etc.
All the usual time wasting culprits are also open... Safari, Mail etc.
But I don't often use Widgets!
I developed an entire desktop app that way. It was a full blown OpenGL
analysis app for ultrasonic data.
It is not perfect with 2GB, and there are slowdowns, but the best way
around that is to have lots of swap space.
However, it is certainly not unworkable.
On my G5 I have 4GB and that flies along.
I have just ordered a new 17" with 4GB and based on my experience the
last 2 years think that will be quite comfortable.
But it will be nice to have the option to easily upgrade.
