Hmm,
I was pretty much decided on getting a 2.4 Macbook for development
work. Regularly using TextMate, XCode, and Interface Builder. To make
the best use of the screen, then you should really have MegaZoomer
installed. Unforunately in the case of XCode 3 it still isn't a proper
cocoa app and therefore MegaZoomer is unable to work with it.
Interface Builder will work however, and so will TextMate.
For some reason I found myself slightly put-off by the looks of the
Macbook Pro. Particularly the speaker grills which seem kinda cheap-
looking when you consider how they could have been easily made to look
good. Also there are certain hardware issue(s) that have been reported
for the new MacBook Pro which are not present on the MacBook. Finally
the extra weight would put me off unless can be translated into a
longer battery life.
On the flipside I own neither of these products yet and dont feel
entirely sure whether I'm making the right decision in the long run. I
have played around with a MacBook and MacBook pro, and while the
MacBook had a smaller - looking screen, I didn't know whether it was
because they were right next to each other or that 13.3" would be
**too** small in daily use ?

I second that. I would add that I have been working with a MB for a
while, and even with spaces the 13.3" display is very very small.
Don't know if you share that experience, but I usually need the
debugger, a couple of edit windows and my app's window, and I would
love to have a couple of extra pixels.
I'm also considering the choice 15" vs 17" (and forget the MB
because of the display size and missing FW). Mobility against
pixels... For me this is really a point to consider.
I also would like to know if 4 MB are enough if you have a
virtalization app, be VirtualBox or VMWare or Parallels running
along with Xcode (only thing I know for sure: 2 MB are not).

Jesse,
I am not sure why. But for me, I need a FireWire interface for a
fast interface and the Express/34 for my eSata drive and the
MacBook does not have those features. Now, it is possible that
people are concerned about the graphics adapter not being as
powerful as the MBP. This could be a problem.

Taking this thread back to it's original topic:
Is there any particular reason not to use a MacBook? I find that
2.4GHz is 2.4GHz whether 13" or 15" the differences between 2.4,
2.5, and 2.66 are trivial at best. And I find the MacBook is even
more "mobile" than the 15" MBP (obviously for size).
Just wondering if there is some major turn-off that puts MacBooks
out of the thought process.
Also: it is an "undocumented" feature that a late generation (Late
2008, with the model code of 3,1 or 4,1) MacBook can handle 6GB of
RAM. I would assume this carries over into the MBP line, but
obviously we can't be sure without having someone who has actually
done it.
