Actually, that depends only on the status of the toolbar; it doesn’t
matter whether the sidebar is showing or not.
(Note: You can hide the sidebar if the toolbar is showing, but you
can’t hide the toolbar without also hiding the sidebar.)
I should have been clearer. I'll try again ...
If your folder window has its 'toolbar visible' property set to false,
then when you double-click a sub-folder, you always get a new window.
It does not matter if "Always open folders in a new window" is checked
or not. It is ignored.
(And ALL of my folder windows have the 'toolbar visible' property set
to false!)
