Here’s a picture of a viewing booth:

These are CMYK separations to various profiles built using the FOGRA52.txt data
(and a couple using the 47L data). Proofs simulate FOGRA52 on matte OBA media
using a SureColor P5000 with the violet ink set.
For the sake of argument, let’s say that I like BVDM’s Mr Low Key when we
convert from ECI RGB to the ECI's PSO Uncoated v2 profile.
If I create an ICC profile from the FOGRA52.txt data using *any* of the
software tools that I have at my disposal, including Argyll, I cannot match Mr
Low Key.
All variants result in an image that is far too blue.
[GMG’s ColorServer conversion will get closest, but this isn’t an ICC solution
and I can’t rapidly manufacture new profile variants as quickly as I can with
our other software solutions.]
Matching Mr Low Key hasn’t been an issue in 39, 47, 45, 29 etc etc. —custom
profiles made from original data files don’t differ much from the generic ECI
or PS profiles.
For the sake of argument, let’s also say that I definitely don’t like the ECI
version of Mr Midtone or Ms High Key… especially their skin tones… which don’t
look right at all.
